Martin Hayes is one of the world's most celebrated fiddlers and an influential figures in Irish traditional music. Rooted in the classical, folk and contemporary worlds, Hayes is the founder of the seminal Irish-American supergroup The Gloaming, and has collaborated with everyone from Bill Frisell and Yo-Yo Ma to Sting and Paul Simon. Martin's partnership with the late great American guitarist and Gloamning member Dennis Cahill was considered one of the great partnerships in traditional Irish music.
Martin will joined onstage for this performance by distinguished Irish cellist Kate Ellis of the Crash Ensemble.
Kate is a versatile musician dedicated to the performance and exploration of all new music. She is cellist and Artistic Director of Crash Ensemble, Ireland's leading new music group, a member of Martin Hayes' Common Ground Ensemble, Francesco Turrissi's Taquin experiments, Yurodny, Ergodos Musicians and the electro-folk group Fovea Hex.
"In the decades to come, we'll surely talk of having seen this man in the way others talk of Miles Davis or Jimi Hendrix or John Coltrane." - THE IRISH TIMES
"It's no wonder he's been compared to Miles Davis and Steve Reich." - THE ARTS DESK
"...Martin Hayes's unerring ability to catch an air on the breeze, coaxing a delicate refrain into elevating medleys of more traditional Irish fare." - THE IRISH EXAMINER
