In association with Macdara Yeates:
Limerick Uilleann Piper Louise Mulcahy presents a special concert and presentation on the often-forgotten contribution of women to the tradition of the Uilleann Pipes, one of Ireland's oldest and most complex musical instruments.
Throughout the event, Mulcahy will bring to light an array of female outliers in the art of Uilleann Piping, detailing the ways in which their influence still endures to this day, and provides inspiration for a new generation of young female pipers.
Joining Louise on the day is; Sorcha Ní Scolaí, a young piping prodigy, who at the age of just fifteen, has been featured on RTÉ's Rolling Wave and performed in the National Concert Hall; and Máire Ní Ghráda, a veteran piper and academic who in 1978 became the first female piper to be commercially recorded.
